Kenilworth and Doo Wop Motels

What does the Village of Kenilworth, Chicago’s priciest North Shore community, have in common with Wildwood, New Jersey’s Doo Wop Motels?

Well, among other things, they’re both on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s list of most endangered places. We’ll leave the other things up to you to determine.

According to the National Trust the historic homes of Kenilworth (pictured above) are being replaced with McThings that are too horrible to picture here.

It’s interesting that they singled out Kenilworth –I’d always thought Winnetka and Hinsdale had higher percentages of “replaced” housing — but really most notable that the National Trust designated Chicago as the “epicenter” of the phenomenon.
