The flag was flying at half staff today outside Lake Forest’s City Hall, and scores of flags lined Deerpath Rd, lest we forget.
At The Glen Town Center in Glenview this past summer I talked with a Navy veteran who survived the 1945 attack on the USS Franklin, which suffered 724 dead and 265 wounded. He recalls the heroism of Lt Donald Gary who repeatedly risked his life to rescue his shipmates.
