Lincoln Park Plaza is a 17-story, 249-unit contemporary high-rise at 600 W Diversey Pkwy on the Lakeview side of the border of Lincoln Park and Lakeview. The building has ground-level retail space.
Lincoln Park Plaza was completed in 1982 and was originally known as Rienzi Plaza, named after Civil War general Phil Sheridan’s famous horse. The building was designed by M. David Dubin of Dubin Dubin Black & Moutoussamy.
South-facing glass-wall elevators at the center of the building serve the apartment floors.
The building changed ownership in recent years and has been undergoing extensive improvements.
The apartments
Lincoln Park Plaza has a variety of 1- and 2-bedroom, 2-bath floor plans. Floor plans are accessible online. Heat, air-conditioning, Internet access and DirecTV are included in the rent. Some of the units are set aside as affordable housing.
The apartments have maple wood-look floors. All-electric kitchens have been updated with newer maple cabinets, gas ranges, dishwashers and built-in microwaves. A number of the floor plans have kitchens with windows. Baths have also been updated.
There are a number of newly-created 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartments that have expansive living spaces, outdoor terraces, kitchen islands, oversized baths and in-unit washer / dryers.
Closet space is generally good. All of the apartments have a generous amount of natural light from multiple windows.
Views. Higher-floor units have good views. Corner units have large windows on two sides for more expansive views.
Amenities, services, policies
Lincoln Park Plaza has recently updated and expanded its amenities.
The building has a new fitness room and a laundry room. Bicycle storage is available.
Lincoln Park Plaza has on-site leasing, management and maintenance staff. Cats are welcome; dogs aren’t.
The building has an on-site parking garage in an area in which parking is very scarce.
The location
Lincoln Park Plaza is on the border of Lincoln Park and Lakeview, at the northwest corner of the busy 5-way intersection of Diversey, Clark and Broadway. It’s a convenient location, close to a wide selection of bars, restaurants and neighborhood shops, and a short walk from the park.
Shopping. Lincoln Park Plaza has excellent proximity to grocery shopping.
A Walmart Neighborhood Market is just steps from the building.
Trader Joe’s on Diversey is a block west of the building. The Walmart has a pharmacy and there’s a Walgreens adjacent to it.
Anyone setting up housekeeping for the first time will appreciate having Affordable Portables, American Mattress and Bed Bath & Beyond near the building.
Dining, nightlife, entertainment.
There’s a crowded bar and restaurant scene along Clark, Broadway and Diversey.
Dunlay’s, The Edge and The Wiener’s Circle are a few of the very many venues in a blocks-long strip along Clark St.
Duffy’s Tavern, Pars Cove and Miss Asia are just a few of the options you’ll find clustered along Diversey, just east of Lincoln Park Plaza. The popular Yolk is opening shortly. Expect a wait for breakfast on weekends.
Chipotle and Panera are in the building, Potbelly and Starbucks are down the block, and all the national brands you’d expect in an affluent neighborhood are within a short walk.
Century Centre Cinema is just north of Diversey on Clark St.
Parks, recreation.
Lincoln Park has too many attractions to list.
The Zoo, the Conservatory and its gardens, the landmark Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and other Lincoln Park draws are all within reach of the building.
Active recreation opportunities are abundant, some of them unexpected. Fly fishing lessons, for example, are available at nearby North Pond in the park and the golf driving range at Diversey is open year-round. There are clay tennis courts and miniature golf adjacent to the driving range.
With a little bit of luck you might strike up a friendship with someone who has a boat in nearby Diversey Harbor.
The park also offers endless opportunities for quiet relaxation.
Transportation. Lincoln Park Plaza’s access to public transportation is good, but not great.
The #22 Clark and #36 Broadway buses stop just outside the building and travel into the Loop.
The #77 bus stops in front of the building and connects to the CTA Brown Line stop at Diversey, the Red, Brown and Purple Line stop at Belmont, and the Belmont Blue Line stop.
The nearest CTA train stop, at Diversey, is about a 9-minute walk or a 5-minute bus ride from Lincoln Park Plaza.
Taxi service is nearly always available near the building. A Zipcar car-sharing location is in the building.
Access to I-90/94 and the city’s expressway grid is inconvenient, and can be a source of major misery during peak hours.
