Lucky Ralph live in Wrigleyville

The Lucky Ralph Show is billed as a concert experience with a variety show edge. Organizers are urging potential audience members to picture “vintage Ed Sullivan variety hour-meets-late night TV with a dash of Andy Warhol and The Knitting Factory thrown in.”

Presented by Ralph Concepcion of Ravenswood Event Services, and the Metro, in Wrigleyville, this music / comedy series is based on marrying new indie bands with comedy performers and other acts. The inaugural show, on Sunday May 14, features Telenovela, a Chicago band that has been described as “post-punk, grown-up garage rock with influences from Gang of Four to Kraftwerk to Wire. Sounds very relaxing. The first show also features comedians, a DJ, a magician, a guy who juggles and spins plates and the Lucky Ralph Dancers.

Tickets are $10. Doors open at 6:30, and the show begins at 7 p.m.. The Metro is at 3730 N. Clark St. Get tickets there in advance or at the door.

There will be three more Lucky Ralph shows in 2006 after the first one, with all new talent at each show. Jump on the bandwagon early.
