Madison Throop Place is a complex of four 4-story luxury apartment buildings under construction near the intersection of Madison St and Throop St in the West Loop.

The development consists of two buildings at 1247 W Madison and 1249 W Madison with 72 units overall. First occupancies for the buildings are slated for March 2016.

Michigan Avenue Real Estate Group is the project’s developer.

The apartments

Details of the apartment mix have not been released yet.

The apartments will have bamboo flooring, 10-foot ceiling heights, large expanses of windows and private balconies. Fourth-floor units have private rooftop decks that share a common grill.

Kitchens have stylish cabinets, quartz countertops, tile backsplashes and stainless steel appliance packages with gas ranges and built-in microwaves. All of the apartments have in-unit washer / dryers and individual heating and air-conditioning units.

Bathrooms include chrome fixtures, Italian tiles and rainfall showers.

Views. Madison Throop Place has limited views from the apartments.

Amenities, services, policies

Madison Throop Place does not have common-area amenities. The buildings do have elevators and heated garage parking.

The complex does not have on-site leasing, management or maintenance staff. Entry to each building is controlled via an intercom camera system.

The location

Madison Throop Place is located on a pedestrian-friendly stretch of Madison Street lined with low-rise buildings, bars, restaurants and local service establishments. It’s a pleasant environment with a strong neighborhood feel.

Shopping. Residents at Madison Throop Place have a good variety of grocery shopping options, including a Target four blocks from the building.


The new Mariano’s a half-mile east of Madison Throop Place has been generating a lot of positive buzz and drawing crowds to a large selection of prepared foods and craft beers. Jewel-Osco also has a location nearby.

You’ll find the occasional boutique and gallery in the neighborhood, but retail venues are fairly scarce. State Street shops, anchored by Macy’s, are a mile-and-a-half east.

Dining, nightlife. The West Loop is an almost indescribably-rich dining and nightlife venue.

Talay Thai Cuisine is located across the street from the building.


The thriving Randolph Street restaurant corridor, a few blocks north, draws tourists and locals to options that range from the grand to the casual. The annual Taste of Randolph street fair is a great way to sample what they have to offer.

Greektown is a few blocks east of Madison Throop Place.



Residents at Madison Throop Place don’t need to venture to the well-known destination strips. They have a short stroll east or west along Madison St to Nohea Cafe, Palace Grill, Third Rail Tavern, The CrossRoads, Viaggio and West End, to name a few

Parks, recreation. The location has good proximity to public parks and recreational opportunities.

The more than 7-acre Skinner Park, two blocks from the property, has a children’s playground, baseball fields, basketball courts, an athletic field for football or soccer and hosts popular events including Movies in the Parks. There’s also a full complement of facilities, including a pool, field house and tennis courts, at the 13-acre Union Park, several blocks west of Madison Throop Place.

Mary Bartelme Park, a few blocks southeast, is a neighborhood favorite for kids and dogs.

Hockey players will enjoy the close proximity to Johnny’s IceHouse East, a 4-minute walk west on Madison St.

Transportation. Public transportation is excellent. Madison Throop Place is a short walk from the new CTA Pink and Green Line stop at Morgan.

The nearby Racine Blue Line stop reaches O’Hare airport in about 50 minutes.

A number of CTA bus routes serve the area and several stop outside the building on Madison.

Madison Throop Place has good access to the city’s expressway grid. Taxi service is readily available on Madison. Zipcar car-sharing locations are nearby.
