At the time I shot the above photo, in April of 2008, the gas station site at the left of the above photo had already been vacant for years. It’s vacant still, but reportedly being eyed by McDonald’s.
A Mickey D’s with a drive-through would clearly clash with Northfield’s vision of “a more pedestrian-friendly downtown.” But then, anyone familiar with this stretch of Willow Road can see that the term “pedestrian-friendly” is likely to clash with the reality of downtown Northfield for the rest of the century.
