Mies van der Rohe and the Krispy Kremes

This particular cog in the Yo Chicago wheel can’t say enough about the Chicago Cycling Club’s weekend tours. Taking one of the club’s rides is a great way to stay in touch with changes in local neighborhoods and gawk at some real estate along the way. Check out the June schedule here. On June 18, the club is offering The Mysteries of Mies, a tour of the great Mies van der Rohe buildings of Chicago, which includes architectural commentary by a guest docent. The ride concludes at the famous “glass house” apartment buildings, 860 and 880 Lake Shore Drive.

We also like the look of the club’s June 4 ride, the “Doughnuts and Dawgs – Krispy Kreme and Best Kosher” tour. The South Side expedition promises to take in “the stock yards that fed the nation” during the war years and the “war factories that helped make the world safe for democracy.” The ride also will stop at the Krispy Kreme at 45th Street and Pulaski Road, and Best Kosher Foods at Pershing Road and Morgan Street.
