On the first Friday of September there were 734 homes and condos listed for rent in the MLS in the downtown ZIP codes that we track. As of September 30, 875 units were available, an increase of 19.2%.
A seasonal increase in available units and slower absorption are to be expected at this time of year. In September of last year the number of available units increased by 11.6%.
Nearly two-thirds of the increased inventory is accounted for by two ZIP codes: the South Loop’s 60605 and the Gold Coast / Streeterville ZIP code of 60611.
Within the past two weeks The Clare, 55 E Pearson St, listed 22 units for rent in the MLS. An additional 7 units became available at One Museum Park, 1211 S Prairie, bringing the total rental listings in that building to 15.
