We’ve been tracking, since last November, the number of condos, townhomes and single-family homes listed for rent in the MLS in 14 downtown Chicago ZIP codes.
When we began tracking the available rental inventory stood at 1,927 units. It edged slowly downward until, as of June 25, only 1,286 units were listed for rent. The number inched up to 1,298 as of July 9,
In the past two weeks the number of units listed for rent surged to 1,537 – a reversion to April 2010 levels and an 18.4% increase. Inventory levels increased in all 14 ZIP codes, led by 60607 (30.4%) and 60611 (24.4%).
