Welcome to Vittum Park day

Our obsession with city neighborhoods here at YoChicago takes us to the city’s Southwest Side today as we explore Vittum Park, a tiny enclave of raised-ranch homes with a namesake park at its core. Bounded by 47th Street on the north, Cicero Avenue on the east, Archer Avenue on the south and Laramie Avenue on the west, the neighborhood is a sub-area of the larger Garfield Ridge neighborhood, adjacent to Midway Airport.

Aside from the occasional roar of departing planes, Vittum Park is clean, quiet and appears to be occupied mostly by families. A grid of alleys and one-way streets neatly stripes the neighborhood, and the trimmed lawns, colorful flower beds and relentlessly similar architecture sometimes makes it difficult to distinguish one home from the next. Still, we’ll do our best to point out what’s unique about this corner of the city. Stay tuned throughout the day for posts, photos and more.
