Andersonville Bay Condominiums comes to Clark and Bryn Mawr

Andersonville Bay Condominiums

A 17-unit condo project has cropped up toward the north end of Andersonville’s Clark Street commercial corridor. Andersonville Bay Condominiums, at 5601 N Clark St, is a conversion of a three-story vintage building.

Condos have one or two bedrooms and one or two baths, with prices ranging from $184,900 to $344,900, said Gabriel Datcu, of The Habitat Company, which is marketing the project. The developer – a company called Homes4You, according to Datcu – is also planning one duplex unit that will be slightly more expensive, he said.

The model I toured had the “great room” setup ubiquitous in condo developments. A granite-topped breakfast bar separated the living and dining area from the kitchen, which had stainless steel appliances and cabinets with a synthetic wood veneer. The second bedroom was about the right size for an office.

All of the condos are available, and the project has been on the market for about two months, Datcu said. Deliveries are within 30 days.

Three businesses occupy the ground floor: Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, EGI Electronics and Turkish Cuisine, a neighborhood standby with a faded red awning.

Turkish Cuisine had a decent lunch crowd, but otherwise the businesses at the Clark / Bryn Mawr intersection seem a little down at heel. The former home of a Salvation Army outlet at 5556 N Clark just north of a Jewel is vacant, and a diner-like restaurant called Gilly’s across the street on the southeast corner was closed Sunday when I walked by about lunchtime.

On the northeast corner, Primo Pizza and Bella’s Laundry are fronted by a parking lot. This mini-plaza is surrounded by a McDonald’s and a Jiffy Lube.

But the broader trend along Clark Street seems clear: cute, quaint retail is pushing south of Foster and north of Bryn Mawr. The brunch crowds at M. Henry, at 5707 N Clark St, spilled out onto the sidewalk Sunday, and a banner draped across Cafe Bong Ho, the shady, fantastic karoake bar at 5706 N Clark St, announced new management.
