Concept vs. execution: Phase 1 of EcoNorth

EcoNorth was on the list of North Side developments I looked at on Wednesday because I heard from Mary Jaeger with Baird and Warner that work on the first building was almost finished, and before yesterday I had never seen so much as a photo of the development.

What I found at 1820 – 1842 W Irving Park Rd in North Center was this dark, austere, box-shaped building. I was struck by how large it looks for a five-story building, mostly because it extends so far back from Irving Park Road. It almost looks like two buildings joined only at the base.

Some work still remains to be done on the ground-level commercial space, and the street-facing balconies are unfinished, but construction on the building looks close to completion.

This first 16-unit building is located at 1842 W Irving Park Rd, at the western edge of the development. From the looks of things, the third building, which will be located at 1820 W Irving Park Rd, will sit right next to the Irving Park Brown Line station.

Prices for two-bedroom condos at EcoNorth run from the $390s to the $450s.
