Construction sites around the city were active yesterday as temperatures rose into the mid-60s, so I visited a couple of new South Side developments, beginning with the Oakwood Shores development in Oakland. There, Granite Partners for Oakwood Boulevard is building more than 3,000 rental and for-sale homes on 90 acres between 37th Street and Pershing Road.
Most of the above photos were taken along 37th Place, just to the east of Vincennes Avenue. The land is the former site of the Ida B. Wells and Darrow Homes public housing projects, and I found a few of those homes still standing along Vincennes. To the west of Vincennes, a large stretch of vacant land waits to be redeveloped.
