No mortgage fraud in Illinois?

by Joe Zekas on 2/2/10

If you’re a regular follower of the Mortgage Fraud Blog, FlippingFrenzy and similar sites, you’re used to reading headlines like “Arizona broker convicted for …” and “Georgia man charged with …” and “California agents sentenced …”

You’ll hardly ever see “Illinois” or “Chicago” appearing on those sites, unless the federal government brings a case. Is that because there’s no mortgage fraud here – or just no local law enforcement?

Seriously, no mortgage fraud in IL? I find that hard to believe. A broker sent me several blank applications this individual wanted me to sign. When I inquired, I was told they were for future deals we’d do. The company this individual worked for wasn’t licensed in IL and a couple of other blatant oddities set off a red flag. Local enforcement agencies didn’t seem concerned. I’m curious at what point they show interest.

There is, of course, wholesale mortgage fraud here, and little indication that our law enforcement agencies take any interest in combatting it.
