North Lawndale: The state of a neighborhood

by Mark Boyer on 8/30/09

In this video from Joe’s recent drive around with Larry Kimbrough of Breaking Ground, Larry talks about some of the development and improvements that are coming to North Lawndale, and some of the obstacles that are impeding growth.

Responding to another video I posted on Friday, the urban politician griped that Mike Tomas from the East Garfield Park New Communities Program was excited that a new CVS pharmacy was coming to that ‘hood. In this video, Kimbrough explains that because there’s such a lack of new development, there’s no NIMBYism on the part of neighborhood advocates: “The development’s coming, but it’s not to the point where we’re not tolerant of what’s going on,” he tells Joe.
