Park Millennium units selling at rate of 49 a month

It seems that everyone wants a piece of Park Millennium, the three-year-old apartment building at 222 N. Columbus Drive, that’s going condo.

Carrie McCormick of Centrum Properties, which is doing the conversion and selling the units, tells us Centrum is averaging 49 sales a month. The project has been selling since April 2005, and 465 of the 480 units have been snapped up, McCormick says.

Buyers are lined up outside the building each morning, waiting for the sales center to open, and there are so many eager buyers that Centrum had to hire a tour guide to take groups of people around the building, rather than giving them the usual individual inspections.

McCormick says that one New York woman who was in town for vacation happened to be walking through Millennium Park when she noticed Park Millennium’s sales sign. She came in for a look around, decided to say goodbye to the Big Apple and bought a unit that day.

It’s easy to see why the building is selling well. It’s right near the park and the lake, and offers loads of amenities, including a business center, media room, fitness center and so on.

Plus, the prices are a little lower than what you’d usually find at a new construction project in such a top-drawer location. Studios are in the $190s, and two-bedrooms are priced from the $410s. One-bedrooms are already sold out.
