Pools make a splash in Chicago highrises

While fitness centers with “state-of-the-art equipment” are as mandatory as granite countertops in downtown highrises these days, swimming pools are less common, even in the mega-bucks market. But several planned developments, including 535 St Clair which we spoke about earlier this week, will feature full-sized pools.

“We are thinking there might be a lot of Type-A, successful, driven people who might want to get up at 5 a.m. and do their laps before they go to work,” developer Mark Sutherland of Sutherland Pearsall tells us.Some of the highrises planning to install pools are putting them on the rooftop, exposed to the elements, a move that’s sure to separate the true hunter/warrior types from the would-be’s of the gene pool during the winter months.
