Market Common South Shore proposal at US Steel South Works site in Chicago

The City Council has approved McCaffery Interests‘ plan for a whole lot o’ condos, apartments, and retail spaces at the old US Steel South Works site in South Chicago. Don’t hold your breath, though — McCaffery talks about this development in terms of decades, not years.

Don’t worry, I’m not holding my breath. I think retail/industry should be built first, plenty of people live in the area already, and they need jobs. Plus why build a crapload of houses first , residents would still have to shop elsewhere. Park Boulevard at 35th & state has little retail, but its not so much that people will flock there.

I’m excited for this to happen, though I have some quibbles with their preliminary designs.
