Rent the Dewes Mansion for $15,000

Don’t reach for your checkbook just yet – that’s apparently only the daily rent for one of Chicago’s grandest homes, according to an article in Crain’s Chicago Business.

We wrote about the home, at 503 W Wrightwood Ave, in Lincoln Park, when it first came on the market last November. The asking price is still $9.9M, according to Crain’s. At that time we’d heard rumors that a previous owner had rented out the home for gay porn films.

The current owner, Fred Latsko, told Crain’s he’s making the property available for rent because “I’m almost broke, if not broke.”

I normally wouldn’t consider anything under 10,000 square feet as a mansion. The Dewes house comes in just shy of that benchmark, at 9,768 square feet, but is given a pass due to the riotous richness of its detailing.

Part two of my video tour of the Dewes Mansion is above, and Parts one and three are at YouTube.
