Restoring the terra cotta façade at 1225 Old Town apartments

The elaborate terra cotta façade that graced the Grossinger Cadillac dealership in Chicago’s Old Town was disassembled and restored to near-original condition while a new luxury high-rise was under construction on the site.

The studio to 3-bedroom apartments at 1225 Old Town have been renting up rapidly in a prime location at 1225 N Wells St. A new Plum Market is scheduled to open in the building in June.

The re-installation of the façade, which blends the striking new tower into the classic surroundings of its Old Town location, began earlier this week. Ken Swift of Algozine Masonry, which specializes in historical restorations, takes us inside the job for a brief look.
