River North’s best apartment towers – views

This is the first in a series of posts identifying the best apartment towers in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The photo above lists all of the buildings and shows their location relative to each other.

Renters simply have too many differing priorities – and budget constraints – to make singling out an overall best building anything but a pointless exercise. We’ll focus our series on identifying the buildings that rank highest on these criteria:

  • Views
  • Grocery shopping convenience
  • Public transit access
  • Amenities package
  • Proximity to the expressway grid
  • Walking distance to the Loop
  • Apartment finishes
  • Affordability
  • Most dining, nightlife nearby
  • Boutique ambiance
  • Close to parks, beach
  • Private outdoor space
  • Pet-friendly
  • Shopping
  • Studio / convertible floor plan
  • One-bedroom floor plan
  • Two-bedroom floor plan
  • Three-bedroom floor plan
  • Starting with the first item on our list, views, we rank two buildings in a virtual tie: Kingsbury Plaza and Hubbard Place. The buildings earn that spot due to a combination of great height, window space, private balconies and a location at the west edge of River North that affords sweeping vistas of the cityscape.

The northeast, east and southwest views from Hubbard Place.

The views east, southeast and north from Kingsbury Plaza.

In addition to having different priorities, renters have differing takes on what constitutes a great view. If you disagree with our selections, or if you have a priority we haven’t mentioned, chime in with a comment.
