Sales of existing homes rose 5.5 percent in Illinois last year over 2002, according to the Illinois Association of Realtors.
The trade group recorded 120,674 resales in 2003, compared with 114,601 in 2002. December sales rose 7.7 percent over the previous month, to 8,891. Illinois home prices also rose in December, to $171,800, an increase of 5.2 percent. In the Chicago area, prices also rose 5.2 percent, to an average of $221,100.
