Boofoo is where eagles soar on the south east side. Not the best place for a museum.

Not to be too defensive about this, but it's not the editors' fault; it's mine. I tried numerous times to get a comment from Bobbie Steele but her press person kept telling me she'd have a statement and never got back to me until a day after the issue went to bed.

The people at TOC obviously don't read the local newspaper. That's sad.

The Cook County Board has essentially reversed its decision regarding the old County Hospital and now is leaning toward preservation of the main building. The new acting County Commissioner Bobbie Steele is strongly in favor of this, and even Todd Stroger (potential future Board President) stated he would support preservation of "parts" of the structure.

Either way, John Stroger, who is out of the picture, was the major force behind demolishing the thing. My understanding is that he never had enough votes to get it torn down.

I'm dissappointed--how can TOC have their info so misconstrued? That's a terrible shame..

I should confess that the editors of TOC supplied me with a list of buildings they were interested in covering, and I negotiated with them. I thought including the steel mills was sort of goofy, too, but you have to choose your battles. [The worker's cottages, actually, weren't on their list.] And the proposal for the hospital doesn't call for market rate condos; among the mixed uses they proposed was for transient housing for hospital staff, patient families, and the like. But thanks for reading, and thank you Yo for posting the link.

Some of these projects I agree with (Washtenaw Bungalows) others not so much, The county building is just to big to enjoy a residential afterlife. Besides who would want to live in such a germ infested environment? The Coke plant is just rediculous. A museum? First of all its in boofoo, second of all the the site is huge, again way to big.
