The Kingsbury on the Park Condominium, 653 N Kingsbury in River North, recently switched security contractors, prompting Local 1 of the Service Employees International Union to park a giant inflatable rat outside the building in protest.
Lieberman Management Services, which manages the condo, has hired Guardian Security to replace a union contractor at the property, according to Aaron Jones, a Field Representative for Local 1.
Jones says that security officers at the condo could retain their jobs, but only by taking an estimated $2 an hour pay cut and losing their benefits. “That’s a huge cut. These people were barely at a living wage, maybe, and now they’re below that.”
Several units currently for sale at Kingsbury on the Park are being offered at about a one-third discount from their previous selling prices.
