We knew home prices were trending upward in Uptown, but we had a moment of sticker shock when we saw that a pair of new single-family homes planned for 1431 and 1433 W Winnemac Ave are each listed for almost $1.1 million (at least we assume that figure applies to both houses; @properties, which is marketing the properties, lists only one price).
That’s hardly exceptional – a scan of about 115 single-family home developments we’re tracking citywide shows that the vast majority of North Side properties are selling for that or more. Still, it’s pretty surreal to see a million dollar house for sale when you rent a perfectly civilized, non-rat-infested apartment just around the corner for less than $500 per month. Which we do.
The houses will have four bedrooms and 3.5 baths, and span about 4,000 square feet. Features include Viking appliances, radiant heat on the lower levels and two-car garages.
