Spend a part of Labor Day with the sky cowboys

The boys who build the big ones, especially the “sky cowboys” who walk steel beams high above the ground, take an immense amount of pride in doing their job right, and revel in simply having done it.

You can listen to some of their voices and see the views from 1,000 feet in this slide show video atop One World Trade Center, and read more of their stories at The New York Times.

Most high-rise construction is reinforced concrete rather than steel frame. Join me for a two-part hard-hat tour on the 40th floor of the 47-story condo tower 235 Van Buren while it was under construction.
