Wilco's foray into Chicago real estate

The Burn to Shine 02 Chicago DVD, released in August, mixes our interest in Chicago real estate with our love of great Chicago bands. Filmmaker Christoph Green and producer Brendan Canty of punk-rock group Fugazi asked bands including Wilco, Shellac and Tortoise among others, to each perform a song inside a North Side house that was scheduled for demolition shortly after.

Shellac bass player and prominent Chicago recording engineer Bob Weston scouted around for the doomed house and the bands, helping to pull together a compelling little film that chronicles the home’s history, before the bands perform their songs, in a kind of last rite, inside the house. It then documents the bulldozer at work. The 45-minute film, shot on September 13, 2004, is the second in a series; the first was filmed in Washington D.C.
