Stuff that sells: Landmark Abbott House sells for $1.6M

4605 N Hermitage, Chicago

Curbed’s Mark Boyer reports on the sale of the landmark Dr. Wallace C. Abbott House, a 120-year-old Queen Anne at 4605 N Hermitage Ave in Uptown. The home sold in 2004 for $1.5 million and again in 2006 for $1.95 million; yesterday, after a year and a half on the market, it closed for $1.6 million.

Redfin says its the biggest sale the community area has seen since August 2008, when a Prairie-style home at 757 W Hutchinson St closed for $1.8 million.

Three homes in Uptown are currently listed above the Abbott House’s selling price: a six-year-old six-bedroom at 4726 N Dover St, priced at $2.7 million; a 6,100 square-foot Georgian home at 4230 N Marine Dr, priced at $2.8 million; and a 4,000 square-foot home at 801 W Castlewood Terrace, owned and renovated by interior designer John P. Regas, priced at $2.99 million.
