Slim pickings on an East Village apartment hunt

East Village

I drove part of the East Village neighborhood yesterday looking for FOR RENT signs, and found only three. One was from a known scammer, another had already been rented and I didn’t inquire about the third because I’d seen it advertised at domu for $2,950 a month. The area I surveyed, Chicago Ave (800 N) ...

domu is a must-visit site for Chicago’s small landlords

Schorsch Village

Small to medium-sized Chicago landlords should check in periodically at domu’s blog and Advice for landlords page. The site is an excellent source of information about legal trends and practical issues. Recent landlord-oriented posts at domu’s blog have focused on Illinois Appellate Court decisions, security deposit trends and tenant screening options. domu is also a ...

Another rental service trawls for suckers

Fulton Grace screen cap

We’ve posted repeatedly about the perils of filling out an online rental application. Supplying your Social Security Number and other personal information through an unencrypted, insecure Internet connection is begging to become a victim of identity theft. Rental services aren’t the only firms that expose you to unacceptable risk. We’ve written about a major management ...

If you’re a renter, check out our at-a-glance apartments lists and maps and search MLS listings ...

Rental confusion of the day, domu edition

A duplex-up at 1623 W Barry Ave is listed in the MLS at $2,500 a month. Coldwell Banker’s Jennifer Witt has the listing. domu spotlighted the property at its blog, citing the rent at $2,300 a month, with a contact phone different from the listing agent’s. The same contact phone – which doesn’t trace to ...

Deal of the day: Domu pays your rent

Domu, Schatz Realty‘s new-ish apartment listing website, is offering what it says is a year’s worth of rent to one lucky Facebook fan. To qualify, you have to visit Domu’s Facebook page, click the “Like” button, fill out a few fields, and hope a lot of other people do the same. According to the contest’s ...

Rent or buy a Pickle Factory Loft in Lincoln Park

Pickle Factory Lofts, 1921 N Kenmore Ave, Chicago

Domu’s blog recently introduced readers to a two bedroom / 2.5-bath loft listed for rent at the Pickle Factory Lofts, 1921 N Kenmore Ave in Lincoln Park. At $2,600 a month, the unit is running higher than other two-bedrooms in the area (Domu says the typical rent for a Lincoln Park two-bedroom is $1,500 to ...
