Terra cotta restoration underway and Intelligentsia joins Plum Market at 1225 Old Town

The elaborate terra cotta façade that graced the Grossinger Cadillac dealership in Old Town was disassembled and restored to near-original condition while a new luxury high-rise was under construction on the site.

The re-installation of the façade, which blends the striking new tower into the classic surroundings of its Old Town location, began earlier this week. Ken Swift of Algozine Masonry, which specializes in historical restorations, takes us inside the job for a brief look.

The studio to 3-bedroom apartments at 1225 Old Town have been renting up rapidly since the full-amenity building opened at 1225 N Wells St last summer. Video walks through the amenities and model apartments were featured in an earlier post.

The new Plum Market, which will open June 13 at 1233 N Wells just announced that Intelligentsia will bring its award-winning coffees and baristas to an adjacent 1,200 square foot coffee bar. Intelligentsia will open the same day as the grand opening of the new 27,000 square foot grocery store.

Plum Market also recently announced a partnership with Chef Takashi Yagihashi, who will oversee the new store’s sushi station. In addition to full-service grocery accommodations, Plum Market features a vast eat-in and carryout assortment of foods made fresh daily in a designated area of the store known as Plum Kitchen.
