The bubble is back at Gillson Park

The bubble's back

We’re talking about the bubble that’s kept up by compressed air – not the one that’s kept up by excess liquidity, low interest rates and a weak dollar.

Independence Day is a Gillson Park tradition, and it traditionally comes a day early.

It’s my daughter’s favorite holiday, as it is for many of her friends. It’s a day for dependents — kids and family. In Wilmette, it’s festooned with the liberating weight of tradition and continuity and rootedness.

Wilmette doesn’t change much in ways that matter, and that’s something that kids celebrate more than they celebrate our independence or our freedom.
