The Coast is Magnificent

File this one under, “From Pilsen to the Magnificent Mile.” Walkabout Theater opens its production of The Coast of Chicago, a stage adaptation of Stuart Dybek‘s collection of short stories about growing up in Pilsen, at Lookingglass Theatre on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. This gives you something cultural to do after the Bears game. Lookingglass is at 821 N. Michigan Ave., across from the historic Water Tower.

Also, on Thursday, Jan. 19, the League of Chicago Theatres presents The Coast of Chicago in its Theatre Thursdays series. On the 19th there will be an early performance at 6:30 p.m. followed by a post-show reception with Dybek and Pilsen photographer Paul D’Amato. For tickets (regular performances are $15 to $40; Theatre Thursday performance, $30), call 312-337-0665.

Bonus: Ticket holders get a free martini at the Park Hyatt (800 N. Michigan Ave.) on the night of the performance.
