The Mayfair, 189 E Lake Shore Dr, is the only condo building on the highly prized, architecturally cohesive stretch of East Lake Shore Drive. The other landmarked buildings are held in cooperative ownership. In this video, Joe Zekas and Francesca Rose stop in front of The Mayfair to discuss its homes, before moving on to look at the pre-World War I building at 199 E Lake Shore Dr, built as rental apartments and converted to a co-op in 1995, and 209 E Lake Shore Dr, whose most famous resident was advice columnist Ann Landers.
One three-bedroom condo in The Mayfair is available for $2.57 million. At 199 East Lake Shore, one three-bedroom unit is priced at $4.6 million; according to Francesca, most transactions at East Lake Shore Drive co-ops currently require down-payments of at least 50 percent.
