The Room Place, convenient furniture savings by the roomful

by Joe Zekas on 1/21/13

Several weeks ago I visited the IMD Guest House, an affordable short-term haven for patients and their families who need to be near Chicago’s world-class medical facilities during treatment.

Some of the furnishings there were donated by The Room Place, a 100-year old family-owned business that’s been undergoing a rapid expansion in recent years. The donations were one of The Room Place’s “100 acts of kindness” initiatives celebrating its centennial.

Very few businesses have been able to survive for 100 years, and far fewer under the ownership of the same family, so I was prompted to take a closer look.

Valerie Knight, a granddaughter of The Room Place’s founder, is our hostess in the video, which was shot at 2575 N Elston Ave in Chicago.
