The sound of Scottish d'dums

Hyde Park is the setting for a unique drum concert this Sunday, Jan. 22, when Scottish percussionist Colin Currie is featured in “Veni, Veni Emmanuel,” a concerto for percussion and orchestra composed by James MacMillan.

Currie, 29, was awarded the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award at the age of 15–not bad for a kid too young to even d’dive a car in the United States.

On Sunday at Mandel Hall, 1131 E. 57th St., Currie shares the stage with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in a concert that begins at 3 p.m. and also features two works by Schumann.

Tickets are $35, or $11 for students. Call 773-702-8068.
