The Winchester won’t go away

The Winchester, Chicago“If this project breaks ground in March 2009, I’ll ‘drop trou’ in center-field at the first Cubs home game.”

Commenter Zooticia Zoot wasn’t exactly putting her zooty on the line regarding The Winchester at Belmont Harbor, 3175 N Hudson Ave, back in November 2008 — as another commenter pointed out, The Winchester’s developer never even applied for a building permit. A recent Crain’s article about two foreclosures in Lake View reminded us that the only thing The Winchester did in 2009 was fall into foreclosure (although that lawsuit is still pending).

Never mind all that, though — Koenig & Strey‘s listings insist that the building is still coming…in summer 2013. The brokerage still has nine active listings for the building, ranging from a two-bedroom / one-bath priced in the $380s to a three-bedroom / 2.5-bath priced at $1.86 million.

Four years ago this month, back when the building was known as 3177 Hudson and Century 21 Sussex & Reilly was in charge of marketing, Joe Zekas took a trip to the building’s grand opening party and brought back this video. I suppose it has the distinction of featuring not only a failed project, but a failed brokerage as well.
