James Place proposal scrapped

Posted 2/27/2008 by Patrick Rollens

CaptionJames Place, a 16-story luxury high-rise planned for 100 W Huron St in River North, has been canceled. The news comes just a few weeks after we checked in with the project.

A helpful tipster (thanks Tom!) alerted us that the development's Web site had changed, and I confirmed the decision with Eric Dick, of Maher Partners, this afternoon. Affinity Development still owns the land and is exploring other options.

Over the course of what turned out to be a short development cycle, the James Place marketed a varying number of homes in the high-rise: first 42, then 34, all in an attempt to corner the luxury second-home buyers still shopping in River North.

Agreed! The building looks like it was designed 8 years ago, put off, put off, back on, back off, then back on again…without ever thinking to update the design or start from scratch! The design firm HPA is capable of great things these days if the client will think of a complete redo.

Does this spell doom for "The Huron?"

Stokes' comment was in response to one from a banned troll who occasionally slips past our spam filter.

The troll has posted under more than half a dozen names, and all of the comments during the past six weeks have been deleted. Is the troll beginning to realize the futility of the effort?
