A night at the Opera (Lofts), Part 2

Posted 6/23/2008 by Mark Boyer

In part 1 of my visit to the Opera Lofts open house party last week, a potential buyer said he was impressed with the Opera Lofts, but he was deterred by the price and the neighborhood. A few minutes later, I cornered developer Andy Schcolnik in the garden and asked him about the neighborhood and the history of the building.

At the end of the day, I think Mr. Scholnick has done a great job to date. It is unique, great floor plans, and attention to detail. Hopefully this will carry to completion of remainder of the building, as the gremlins from a gut job start to expose themself, and if they do happen, these are addressed dutifully buy the developer…time will tell.

However, as many have said. I do depart on the notion of immediate South Loop pricing for an area permenantly isolated by I-55…pioneers are going to have to stay a long time. Hopefully though, as other businesses and developments are built around this area, they can turn a weakness into a strength by creating a scenic, unique, nitch area. Go back in 10 years.
