Tour Adler and Sullivan’s Auditorium Building

Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan’s Auditorium Building cost millions to build in the 1880s – and sold to Roosevelt University for $400,000 60 years later. It had been spared demolition only because the cost of tearing it down was prohibitive.

The Auditorium Theatre is my favorite space in Chicago. Emerging from the oppressively low-ceilinged lobby into the grand theater space always brings a rush.

This nearly half-hour video offers a fascinating look at the history, economics, design and engineering of the building.
