Town & Country's DesignerEXPRESS: houses you can touch

Prairie Knoll

It’s a gimicky new name for an old phenomenon, but Town & Country Homes is selling half a dozen completed houses with finishes preselected at its 209-unit Prairie Knoll development, in Plainfield.

The DesignerEXPRESS [sic] single-families seem to have a decent level of finishes, with granite countertops, 42-inch cabinets, recessed lighting, stainless steel appliances, ceramic and hardwood flooring, and other stuff that would normally cost you extra in Plainfield. The hook is that buyers can move into these detached houses, which are priced from the $360s to the $430s, in weeks not months. But the biggest benefit, as anyone who has bought a suburban home on plans knows, is that there tend to be fewer surprises with the home you can touch than the one that exists only in your dreams and a sales center drawing.
