Twelve take part in $15K new home grant

Lake Park Crescent, 4020 S Oakenwald Ave, Chicago

A dozen local homebuyers took advantage of the $15,000 grant provided by a partnership between the City of Chicago and the Partnership for New Communities we reported on in early April, according to a news release.

From April 15 and 29, Find Your Place in Chicago allowed buyers to use the grant with the $8,000 federal first-time homebuyer tax credit for incentives totaling $23,000.

Those who missed the limited-time offer shouldn’t fret. They can still get $18,000 toward a new home by combining an income restriction-free $10,000 grant and the $8,000 tax credit.

The $10,000 grant is available while funds last for homes priced between $150,000 and $450,000 at four Chicago developments; Oakwood Shores, Park Boulevard and Lake Park Crescent on the South Side and at Parkside of Old Town on the Near North Side.

The $8,000 tax credit can be used toward a down payment and is available on any home purchased between January 1 and December 1, 2009.
