Updates: The Maxwell and Roosevelt Collection

by Joe Zekas on 7/29/13

The Roosevelt Collection’s retail space has finally begun to fill, years after the first apartment renters were led to believe they wouldn’t be living above vacant storefronts.

H&M is now open, several additional shops appear nearly ready to open, and the project’s website is touting that “something big is happening … the evening of August 8th.”

Across the river at Canal and Taylor, construction on The Maxwell hasn’t made a great deal of visible progress since we visited nearly two months ago. The project has secured construction financing and several high-profile tenants have signed on, including Nordstrom Rack, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Burlington Coat Factory.

The Maxwell’s website advises that it will be available for retail occupancy in September of 2014. Will it open with a higher rate of occupancy than the Roosevelt Collection retail space?
