This final video from my Hyde Park driving tour begins along Hyde Park Boulevard, which is the boundary between Hyde Park and Kenwood. About halfway through, the video segues into a different clip, in which I’m driving along Lake Shore Drive, looking towards the water on a beautiful February day. (Oxymoron? Not if you were in Chicago last Tuesday.)

Enjoyed the Hyde Park drive-thru.
Do you drive and film?!
Hopefully, there are two of you, for safety’s sake.
The images are so clear, even through the glass of the windshield.
What kind of camera do you use?
Started reading YoChicago about 2 months ago, and as a former native Chicagoan, love keeping up with what’s going on in the city with the Yo team.
Thanks!
The cameras are Sony, either DCR SR100 or DCR SR300 with wireless microphones. These are hard disk-based cameras that enable a simplified workflow so that we can quickly do a lot of video. On occasion we use a Canon point-and-shoot.
WE do drive and film. Sometimes there are two people in the car, sometimes only one. When there’s only the driver the camera sits on a tripod or on a window mount, so the driver’s not taking any risks.
designslinger and joezekas
Wowwww!!! So typical ivory tower condescending northsiders. Its a diverse neighborhood so its must be plagued with so much crime and violence when actually its comparable to any north side neighborhood.
designs linger why didn’t you ask him did he wear he bullet proof vests? Or don’t forget to tell him don’t make any stops and always stay in the car.
Oh and Joe Zekas says oh I’m reaching kenwood. I’m out of hyde park. Well he must quickly turn around before I reach an even more diverse place.
I mean really guys just ridiculous!!
futuredoc2012,
What’s ridiculous is a) not paying enough attention to know that’s not me on the video and b) not realizing the person on the video attended the U of C and lived in Hyde Park. Always stay in the car, indeed!
If you’re a “future doc” I hope you’re understanding what you’re studying better than you understood what you watched. Or does “doc” stand for Department of Corrections?
