Westhaven Park opens new model

Developers Brinshore Development, LLC and the Michaels Development Company have opened a new decorated condominium model Westhaven Park, a 755-unit mixed-income community underway just west of Ashland Avenue, on the Near West Side.
The massive development includes mid-rise condominiums and walk-up “city flats” on two sites totaling 26 acres two blocks north the United Center.

The full-scale model, professionally decorated by the Chicago-based Tonka Group, grand opened in February in the sales center, at 100 N. Hermitage. The Washington model is a two-bedroom, two-bath corner unit with 1,290 square feet of living area and a price tag of $242,300.

Pricing at Westhaven, which is significantly lower than that in the trendy West Loop, next door, has been a big draw, according to co-developer Richard Sciortino, president of Brinshore Development.

“With one-bedroom units starting at $168,500 and two-bedroom layouts beginning at $220,500, Westhaven Park is the most affordably priced new condominium development in the West Loop-Near West Side,” Sciortino said.

Units at Westhaven Park include hardwood floors, fireplaces, balconies and GE Profile appliances. Garage parking is $15,000. Site work is underway for the first stage of the development, a 113-unit mid-rise at 100 N. Hermitage, with construction scheduled to begin in spring. The condos have one or two bedrooms, base priced from the $160s to the $270s.

Sixty condominiums also are planned in seven three-story walk-up buildings in the first phase of Westhaven Park. Each of these city-flat buildings contains eight or nine residential units with one to three bedrooms and one or two baths, priced from the $170s to the $290s.

Westhaven Park, bounded by Hermitage, Lake, Oakley and Washington, also will include 155 mixed-income rental apartment units and a landscaped city park. Another 427 multi-family units are planned in the final phase.

Competitive pricing and a convenient location so far have paid off, according to Pam Gecan, marketing manager for AMS Realty, exclusive sales and marketing agents for the development.

“More than 50 condominiums have been sold at Westhaven Park since the pre-construction sales program began last October,” Gecan said.

“Many buyers are medical professionals who work in the nearby West Side Medical District,” Sciortino said. “We also have staff who work at the nearby University of Illinois Campus, Chicago police officers, public school teachers and various professionals who work downtown.”
