Will fashion shows or free cars bring in buyers?

Because those are the kinds of incentive and event announcements I’m finding in my inbox these days.

I’m not sure whether it’s a gussied-up sales pitch, or if Senco Properties and Property Consultants Realty are just renting out their sales centers for private parties these days, but EcoLogic Lofts apparently will host a “Whirlwind in Bucktown” runway show from 7 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 23. The mixer will celebrate “the very best of Bucktown and its newest hip edition [sic], EcoLogic Lofts,” Senco’s proposed green mid-rise slated for 2359 N Seeley Ave. Because there’s nothing better than sipping cocktails and snatching gift bags while learning about wind turbines and co-ed showers.

I don’t know whether a free MINI Cooper (base MSRP: $19,200) is much of an incentive when you’re talking about a $2.5 million single-family, but from the way Tricia Fox of Keller Williams Gold Coast Residences tells it in a new press release, you won’t be able to park anything bigger in its garage. “SUVs will never fit….At least there IS a garage!” her e-mails exclaim. Hey, at least she’s being honest.

For the most part, however, we’re not seeing a lot of promotions for free car (or free scooter) incentives anymore. Sellers are offering all sorts of goodies, but they’re doing it at the negotiating table, not in real-estate ads.
