Will $500,000 cabanas catch on in Chicago?

Cabanas – those tiny ocean and pool-side shacks better known as the love nests of Desperate Housewives-types and their compliant poolboys than as hot real estate property, have become seaside status symbols selling for between $43,000 and $500,000 in Florida’s overheated market, according to The Wall Street Journal. We checked down at Oak Street Beach but the trend hadn’t surfaced in Chicago as of early December for whatever reason.
Potential buyers at the Florida resort developments in question must first agree to purchase a boring old condo, and must sell the cabana if they sell the condo. Overnight stays in the deeded cabanas are prohibited. We wonder if buyers will end up getting burned when the housing bubble pops….
