The past half dozen years have seen many upper-bracket North Shore homes languish on the market for extended periods of time, experience multiple price cuts, and sell for fractions of their original list price.
The completely renovated Italianate villa at 175 Sheridan Rd in Winnetka came on the market early in July with an asking price of $13,900,000 and closed early last month at $12,250,000. That’s a fast sale at a high percentage of the ask for a home in that price range.
Even before arriving at the home last July I realized it was something special. Real estate agents were streaming toward a broker’s open house on bicycles and from parking spots several blocks from the home. You don’t often see real estate agents on bikes or walking that far in Winnetka.
It was a warm, gloriously sunny day with a light breeze, so I spent only a few minutes inside the home before heading out for a look at the patio, pool and lakefront. In the above video, you can see what I saw, and briefly meet Julie Deutsch and Maureen Mohling, Coldwell Banker agents who’ve seen and sold many of the great estates on the North Shore.
