1330 North Dearborn is a 16-story, 88-unit apartment tower at 1330 N Dearborn Pkwy in the Gold Coast.
The building was originally known as the Dearborn Walk apartments. It was designed by little-known architect Seymour S Goldstein. Goldstein was the architect for Second City and is remembered mostly for incorporating a part of the elaborate arched balcony façade of Louis Sullivan’s Schiller Building into Second City’s entryway.
1330 North Dearborn was completed in 1972, making it the newest apartment high-rise north of Division St in the Gold Coast.
The apartments
1330 North Dearborn has a mix of studio and 1-bedroom apartments. Floor plans are available online.
The apartments are carpeted. All-electric kitchens have dated cabinet and appliance packages. Rents include heat. Air-conditioning is individually controlled through-the-wall units.
Apartments have wall-to-wall windows, good closet space and generously-sized rooms.
Views. 1330 North Dearborn is not a view building, but some of the higher-floor units enjoy views of the lake, park and downtown skyline.
There are good views from the building’s rooftop sundeck.
Amenities, services, policies
1330 North Dearborn has limited common-area amenities.
The building has a rooftop sundeck, a laundry room and personal and bike storage areas. Heated assigned garage parking is available on-site, a feature that’s scarce in this part of the Gold Coast. 1330 North Dearborn does not allow pets.
The location
1330 North Dearborn is in a very attractive location.
The building is a few short blocks west of Lake Shore Drive on a quiet, beautiful street of architecturally distinctive homes.
Shopping. Residents of 1330 North Dearborn have reasonably convenient access to several major grocery stores, in addition to the popular seasonal farmers market on Division St.
A new Jewel Foods is under construction at 1200 N Clark St and is slated to open summer 2017.
The building is also a few blocks from the Sandburg Village Potash Market.
The new, upscale Plum Market is a few blocks west on Wells St, just north of Division. A new Target recently opened on Division St, half a mile west. CVS and Walgreens pharmacies are also nearby.
Glamorous Oak Street boutiques and Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile shops and Water Tower Place are about a 10-minute walk from 1330 North Dearborn.
Dining, nightlife. There’s a dense and varied dining and nightlife scene within a short walk of 1330 North Dearborn.
The fabled Pump Room, PJ Clarke’s, McFadden’s, Hash House and Zebra Lounge are along State St, a few blocks south of the building.
The storied Division Street nightlife strip, home to Bootleggers, the legendary Butch McGuire’s and more than a dozen other establishments is a also short walk from 1330 North Dearborn.
Just south of Division you’ll encounter one of the liveliest restaurant and nightlife clusters in Chicago – what some call the Viagra Triangle.
Locals just call it “the triangle,” after the shape of Mariano Park.
Parks, recreation. Residents at 1330 North Dearborn have access to a variety of parks and recreational activities.
Oak Street Beach, with its spectacular views of the Lake Shore Drive skyline, and the 18-mile lakefront trail, are just east of 1330 North Dearborn.
The fabulous Lincoln Park, home to the Zoo, Conservatory, North Avenue Beach and a host of playing fields and other attractions, begins a few short blocks north of 1330 North Dearborn.
Goudy Square Playlot park is a quiet retreat just south of the building on landmark-laden Astor Street.
Transportation. 1330 North Dearborn has good access to public transportation.
The CTA Red Line stop at Clark and Division is a 5-minute walk from 1330 North Dearborn.
A variety of CTA bus routes are a short block west on Clark Street.
Access to I-90/94 and the rest of the city’s expressway grid can be slow along Division St during peak hours. If you’re southbound or headed for the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290), Ontario St is a better option. Lake Shore Drive access is excellent.
Zipcar car sharing locations and DIVVY bike stations are nearby.
