As David Mamet Festival begins this weekend at the Goodman Theatre I am reminded of the wise words of Mamet as related to a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of mine, who overheard the playwright painfully describing the creative process yet again to an aspiring writer looking for pearls of wisdom. Yeah, that’s right. Wisdom. Smarts. Brains. Know-how.
“Where do you get your ideas?” the admirer asked.
Mamet replied impatiently, “I think ’em up.”
