Owens Park is a highlight of Calumet Heights

But wait, there’s more South Triangle Week fun to come. Calumet Heights, and the smaller neighborhood of Pill Hill, are bounded by 87th Street, 95th Street and the Chicago Skyway to the N & W tracks.

The neighborhood’s diverse housing mix includes split-levels, bungalows, townhomes, frame houses, ranches and a few condos.

The 17-acre Owens Park, 2032 E 88th St, was named after track and field legend Jesse Owens, who served briefly as director of the Chicago Boys Club and headed a couple of state athletic and youth-oriented bodies as well, according to the Chicago Park District Web site. Owens Park has trails, open space, baseball facilities and tennis courts. Some maps refer to Owens Park as Stony Island Park, but that was its former name, according to the Park District Web site.
